Absolute Skin Care Tips to Adopt

Posted by with Comments Off

If skin care is the main defense against poor skin health, what skin care regimen should you adopt? If you read any number of skin articles, advice abounds and that may overwhelm you. Where do you start and what do you absolutely have to do? While there are many skin care tips out there and it’s hard to put each one to practice, here are some absolute skin care tips that will stand your skin in good stead:

Protect Against the Sun

Just because you work indoors most of the time doesn’t mean you don’t need sunscreen. The UV rays travel past glass windows in homes, offices and cars and they can inflict sun damage on the skin. See the grayish, yellowish cast on older skin? You can blame that on the UVA rays as they’re carcinogenic and break down the cells on the skin. So, don’t risk it, fair weather or not, slather on a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum of at least SPF 15, 365 days a year, every day of the week.

Sleep Right, Sleep Tight

Can your sleeping habits wreck you? If you sleep on the side or on the tummy, the face is pressed across the pillow and hours of lying in one position can cause your skin to crease and fold. The trick? Sleep on your back with the softest, highest-thread count fabric.

Exfoliate

Dead skin cells pile up with time and dull the glow of the skin. To lift them off your skin, exfoliate, a great way to gently buff them off, so newer skin cells can emerge for a fresher, clearer look. There are different ways to exfoliate depending on your skin types and condition. For most skin types, it’s best to use a mild glycolic acid-based serum or alpha hydroxy acids. For more in-depth exfoliation, talk to your skin experts or dermatologists.

Moisturize

Just like prime property where the emphasis is on location, keeping the face in the prime of health is all about moisturizing. The drying effects of wind, cold, sun and lifestyle habits such as smoking and drinking may deplete the skin of moisture, resulting in dry, dull and sallow skin. Plump the skin up with moisturizers that contain antioxidants, peptides, ceramides and collagen boosters such as vitamin C.

Stress No More

Stress may not be visible to the eye, but its effects are often felt and seen. It may incite acne flare-ups, aggravate psoriasis and rosacea. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is important to defuse stress as stress reduction will decrease the release of pro-inflammatory stress hormones and chemicals linked to skin flare-ups. Effective stress management will result in better, healthier looking skin. So don’t forget to schedule some down time to relax and unwind to get stress under control.
