sadThere is a whole other side to what we do, and it is one of the founding principles of Privy Skin Care.  We believe, and science has confirmed, that the mind and the skin are connected on many different levels.

One study at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami showed that mood and activity levels improved, as did all measures of skin condition, including redness and itching, after massage therapy.

Emotions can be expressed through the skin just as stress can be expressed through gastrointestinal symptoms, increased anxiety, or hypertension. Take acne, for example. When you are tense, your body releases stress hormones including cortisol, which may increase the skin’s oil production, making you prone to pimples. And in some autoimmune diseases such as alopecia and vitiligo, scientists now show markers that a stressful event can trigger the autoimmune reaction.

Certain people have different target organs that channel stress, some people get ulcers, some people get migraines, and other people manifest their stress through in the skin. When your appearance is impacted due to a skin condition, you may struggle with self-esteem issues and be reluctant to socialize.

We believe that being a licensed esthetician is more than just about surface beauty.  The power of touch, and the privilege of interacting with our clients in a truthful and meaningful way; this is essence of Privy Skin Care.
