Healthy Habits During National Wellness Month
In celebration of National Wellness Month, lets talk about upping the ante on our good habits!
Hydration: Any esthetician will tell you that drinking plenty of water is beneficial for your whole body, including your skin. The belief that we should all drink eight glasses a day is not necessarily true for every single person, but it isn’t a bad place to start. You should try to drink water consistently throughout the day, and increase your consumption if you drink soda or coffee (because they’re diuretics, meaning they flush water out of your system) or exercise, which causes you to lose moisture through sweating. The bottom line is, you’re probably drinking less water than you should be.
Regular facials: You should be using a gentle cleanser each morning and night, amply moisturizing and avoiding too much sun. Even with that skin care regimen, it’s a good idea to get a facial about every four weeks. Facials clean more deeply than face-washing does, and it’s good to have an aesthetician really examine your skin and use products on your face that you cannot or don’t necessarily need to use daily.
Proper Diet: You are what you eat. If you eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains, you’re helping your body get the nutrients it needs, and that contributes to a glowing, healthy complexion. We all fall off the wagon from time to time, but if you eat poorly for too long a time, you will start to notice that your skin looks lackluster.
Ample Sleep: If you get the recommended eight hours of sleep per night, it’s less likely that you will have unsightly bags under your eyes, and your skin may feel more taut and supple. A word to the wise: wash your pillowcases often. Your skin secrets natural oils onto your pillowcase as you sleep, and rubbing against that night after night isn’t good for your skin.
